19So I went in and pulled colors from various scenes in TLOK trailer and various flesh tones pulled from actual photos of Inuit people (babies, women, and men). I also went and pulled multiple html color values with their actual value names to compare/match.
Just like it’s incorrect to call Korra “tan,” calling her “brown” is also a little off! The Inuit tones are very flushed with reds and pinks, while Korra takes on a very muted skin color (obviously for the cartoon). It does share similarities to the value of “tan” but it also shares it with various “browns” as well!
Hopefully this empirical study will be of some help to those who wish to do Korra fanart with either her cartoon tones, Inuit tones, or maybe even a combination of both, just to liven things up! But also take into consideration the lighting that you cast her in, lest you receive the “DAMN LAY OFF THE BLEACH” comment, which holds absolutely no helpful commentary or insight.
Also, if you feel that the skin tones are too light, don’t reblog with caustic or accusatory commentary! It’s more productive to send a polite ask to the artist explaining your point. Polite does not equal asking why Korra is “so damn pale”/”whitewashed” since those contain loaded words/expletives (which will sometimes put people on the defensive/offensive). And also, please don’t insult the artist. That helps absolutely no one.

Dude, Angelia, if we weren’t going to Korea this summer I’d totally have made you apply to this! I’m sure it would be amazing!
